EDUCATION /ACADEMIC POSITIONS
Dr. Richard Anderson graduated AOA from the University of Iowa Medical School. He completed surgical internship and ophthalmology residency at the University of Iowa. He completed fellowships in ophthalmic plastic and reconstructive surgery at Albany Medical Center and the University of California San Francisco. He returned to the University of Iowa in July 1976 to begin his academic carrier as Assistant Professor and Director of the Oculoplastic and Orbital Service at the University of Iowa. He was a prolific writer and innovator in his field and became full professor and chief of the Division in July 1982. In 1984 he moved to Salt Lake City to begin part-time private practice and became Professor and Chief of the Division of Ophthalmic Plastic and Facial Cosmetic surgery at the University of Utah. In 1999 he left the university to become medical director of Oculoplastic Surgery, Inc. and created the Center for Facial Appearances in Salt Lake City.

SOCIETY MEMBERSHIPS & ACTIVITIES
Dr. Anderson is Board Certified and a Fellow of the American Academy of Ophthalmology, the American Academy of Facial Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery, the American Society of Ophthalmic Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery and the American College of Surgeons. He is a National education faculty member and a consultant for Botox Cosmetic.

ACCOMPLISHMENTS:
At the University of Iowa and then in Utah, Dr. Anderson developed oculoplastic divisions with the largest volume in the country. He has trained over fifty U.S. and foreign fellows, many of whom direct oculoplastic and facial cosmetic surgery programs around the country and world. Dr. Anderson has developed many of the modern day techniques in oculoplastic, facial plastic and cosmetic surgery.

PUBLICATIONS:
He has published over 300 scientific papers and book chapters and 2 books in oculoplastic and facial plastic and cosmetic surgery. Dr. Anderson has delivered over 800 papers at scientific (national and international) meetings. He has been on the editorial board of 11 journals in the field, including Archives of Ophthalmology, Ophthalmic Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery and Archives of Facial Plastic Surgery.

HONORS:
Dr. Anderson has received many of the top honors in his field. In 1991 Good Housekeeping Magazine and Reader’s Digest Magazine named him to the best 400 Doctors in America, the only Oculoplastic Surgeon named to that elite group. He has been named to the “Best Doctors in America” yearly. In 1998 Dr. Anderson was honored by Ophthalmology Times as the top doctor in oculoplastic surgery. He received the Achievement in Ophthalmology Award as 1 of 5 doctors to make the greatest contributions in their fields, the Heed Foundation Award for outstanding contributions to ophthalmology, the American Academy of Ophthalmology Honor Award, the Senior Honor Award and The Lester Jones and Wendell Hughes Awards. Dr. Anderson is a consultant for several medical companies including Botox Cosmetic and has been a member of many medical advisory boards including Medicus Aesthetics and the Benign Essential Blepharospasm Research Foundation and is on the board of directors of the aforementioned foundation. He is a past vice president of the American Society of Ophthalmic Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery and a member of the prestigious Orbital Society.
