EDUCATION
/ACADEMIC POSITIONS
Dr. John McCann is a graduate
of the University of Iowa, where he completed
medical school and received a PhD in biophysics
and physiology. He completed eye surgery
training at the University of California
San Francisco and completed advanced training
in oculoplastic and facial plastic surgery
at the University of Utah. After completing
his training in 1996, Dr. McCann took an
academic position at the Jules Stein Eye
Institute at UCLA where he was the Associate
Professor of Ophthalmology, Orbital and
Ophthalmic Plastic Surgery as well as the
Chief, Section of Ophthalmology at the VA
Medical Center, Sepulveda until 2004 when
he relocated to Salt Lake City to become
the co-medical director of Center for Facial
Appearances.

SOCIETY
MEMBERSHIPS & ACTIVITIES
Dr. McCann is board certified and a Fellow
of the American Academy of Ophthalmology,
The Society of Heed Fellows, American
Society of Ophthalmic Plastic and Reconstructive
Surgery, American Medical Association
and the Frederick C. Cordes Eye Society.
ACCOMPLISHMENTS:
At UCLA Dr. McCann directed the Facial
Aesthetic Center, and the Orbital Disease
Center. He was also the head of Ophthalmology
at one of UCLA’s affiliated hospitals
where he taught the UCLA residents and
initiated an International Training Program
for ophthalmic plastic surgeons. He trained
greater than 15 doctors from the United
States and from around the world in Ophthalmic
Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery. He
has developed an electronic medical record
software that is used in offices across
the country
PUBLICATIONS:
Dr. McCann has contributed 4 book chapters
and 50 publications to the scientific
literature as well as lectures nationally
and internationally on his clinical interests
which include development of new surgical
techniques for patients with disorders
of the eyelids and orbit. He also has
a research interest in utilizing computers
to improve patient care. Dr. McCann is
the executive editor of the American Journal
of Ophthalmology and a reviewer for various
journals including The Foundation for
Facial Plastic Surgery
HONORS:
Since 1984 Dr. McCann has consistently
been the recipient of various research
grants and in 2002 was the recipient of
the American Academy of Ophthalmology
Achievement Award, voted to the “Best
Doctors in America”, named to “Empire’s
Who’s Who Amongst Physicians”
and recently featured on a national network
TV show on aesthetic surgery. He is also
a member of the Botox Cosmetic Physicians
