Thyroid
eye disease is a common and challenging
problem referred to our practice. The
most common finding is eyelid retraction
that can prevent complete eyelid closure
and cause eye exposure problems. Additionally,
the eyes can become quite proptotic
(“bug-eyed”), which can
exacerbate exposure problems and eye
comfort and vision. Oculofacial plastic
surgeons are uniquely trained to address
both the eyelid and orbital issues depending
upon the unique needs of each patient.
Additionally, we work closely with other
specialists to optimize the surgical
and medical treatment of this condition.
Of note, the surgical scarring is often
minimal to non-existent, and the results
very satisfying.
