| The
face and eyelids are very common locations
for skin cancers. Many times skin cancers
may appear as benign growths. Other
times, they can develop cancerous characteristics
over a relatively short period of time.
Potential warning signs are new growths
with irregular borders, coloration,
indentation or ulceration, and the presence
of eyelash distortion or absence. Fortunately,
many of these lesions can be safely
and completely removed surgically, and
not effect the eyelid or eyelid function.
However, others skin cancers can have
a high risk of spreading to other parts
of the body, and require large areas
of skin and eyelid removal for adequate
treatment. In these situations the eyelids
may need to be reconstructed or repaired
to allow proper eyelid function and
vision protection. When performed properly
the end result will oftentimes be aesthetically
pleasing in addition to curative. |
